Strengthening Democratic Practices in Pakistan

The project aims to increase peoples involvement in the democratic process preferably of women and increase development programs of political parties on gender issues through a set of activities such as capacity building, advocacy forums, development of ICT materials, publication of fortnightly newsletter, tracking of activities and awareness rising at the community level. A South Asia Symposium is also planned to promote a democratic culture in the region.

The project is being implemented in ten districts; Lahore, Multan, Kasur, Vehari, Attock, Bhawalpur, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Muzaffargarh and Rawalpindi. It is targeting some 5000 political, NGOs and community activists (particularly women), 15, 000 men, 200 regional journalists, 5000 political leaders and activists. Around 25,000 of the rural population will also be provided education on democracy. The project is being supported by the United Nations Democracy Fund.
