Radio Campaign on Local Governance, June 2005-December 2007

The project aims to increase transparency and public understanding of the role and functions of the Local Government Institutions through increasing citizens’ access to local government information and its decision making process. As a result, it shall build public confidence at the grass root democratic institutions.

The radio campaign is being broadcasted from three radio stations, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi. It covers around 75% of radio listening population of the Punjab province.

The radio programmes are broadcasted on every Monday at 02.05 hours. So far 95 programmes have been broadcasted on different topics/issues.

Due to its popularity, the Local Government Department, Punjab has become partners with the CCHD and is providing the airtime cost.

The radio programme receives hundreds of letters every week. A postal survey was also conducted which described the program as one of the best programs and demand came to increase its duration. This paved the way to increase the broadcasting time from 25 minutes to 40 minutes.
