CCHD AT PRESENT
Women Access Justice, March 2006-August 2007
It aims to facilitate women’s access to justice to uphold human rights and to sensitize the government officials to protect and promote women’s rights in the country. It is an integrated model to minimize violence on women, promote women’s legal rights and their access to justice through awareness raising, advocacy, capacity building, networking and service provision.
The project is being implemented in the Bhawalpur district with the support of the European Union. It targets both rural and urban women. Union council awareness raising meetings are held for the rural women on their legal rights. Mobile Legal Teams are sent to the same union councils to provide legal advice to the rural women at their door steps. Advocacy initiatives are taken through public dialogue forums, information dissemination meetings and press campaign on the rights of the women and violence on women.
Capacity of the police, jail officers and elected representatives is also built and data is collected from various sources to sensitize the groups.
Presently, the project is ending but CCHD is trying to secure additional funding to continue its work in the district as the initiative has been owned by the poor women of the district who cannot access justice alone.
