WOMEN POLITICAL EMPOWERMENT (AusAid) 2000-2001

CCHD's project, Women's Effective Participation in Politics was launched in May 2000. AusAid, an Australian donor agency funded this project. In consistence with its overall aim of reducing gender disparity within the society the political education project was designed to promote awareness on issues faced by women in Pakistan 's political process.

The target areas of this project were six districts of Lahore and Gujranwala divisions. These districts were Lahore , Kasur, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala , Narowal and Gujrat. The project also aimed at equipping aspiring women contestants for the elections with skills necessary for effectively participating in the local bodies elections through six, three-day training workshops. The political education project was a one-year project, which included six issue-sensitization seminars in each of the six districts. It also included a three-day training workshop in which the willing contestants were given basic training on issues such as Muslim Family Laws, Local Bodies' Structure, Role of councilors and women's political issues in general.
