VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN (AusAid) 2001-2002
In April 2001 the CCHD launched a community-based project, “Violence Against women”. This project is in consistence with its overall aim of reducing gender disparity in the society. The Violence against Women project was designed to promote awareness about the problems faced by women in Pakistan and to provide relief to distressed women of the target area through Counseling and Referral Center .
The Violence Against Women project is a three-year programme but initially it was spread over a span of one-year with the financial assistance from AusAID, an Australian donor agency. During this period the CCHD launched an advocacy campaign was also started to stir the public opinion on the issue. The campaign included two issue-sensitization public forums and one three-day training workshop with identified core group from target area Kot Lakhpat, Lahore. Regular core group and community meetings were also organized to sensitize the common populace about the gravity of the issue.
